Artist Trading Card- Artists and Mediums #1

Today we began the first part of a series of lessons designed around artist trading cards or ATCs. We are planning to trade these cards either with our Art Collaborative group of Annandale Middle School and North Jr. High or with a swapbot.com trade. Students will be making a total of at LEAST 3 cards during the sessions. These cards will highlight the work of a well-known artist.

In our first lesson we focused on the artists of Kandinsky, Ringgold, Murray and Van Gogh. Our medium choices for creating the cards were colored Sharpie, fabric and thread, "impasto" of 3D fabric paint and Scratch-Art cards. Students must also highlight one element and one principle of art in their cards. The slides below were reviewed in class.

Great Elements Video

GREAT review video for the Elements of Art! This would also make a great introduction to the Elements as well.
