Impressionist Watercolor Landscapes

As an 8th grade review of watercolor techniques, we created a landscape collage of painted paper strips. We discussed how Impressionist artworks have a similar look of blotchy, visible brushstrokes and simple compositions. Some of the techniques we used were:
Wet-in-wet
Scraping
Dry brush
Graded wash
Rubbing alcohol and salt
Resist

A very successful project for many students!

  1. Do you have a written lesson for this? I love it and would love to teach this to my middle schoolers :)!
