Picasso Pop Can Portraits- More to see!

This unique project is a lot like middle schoolers themselves- wild, fun and unexpected! Not only are students excited to bring an empty can of their favorite soda, but they love to crush the cans into abstract face shapes. This engaging lesson easily brings together multiple facets of art making: portrait drawing, abstraction, recycled materials, perspective, pattern, and emphasis. It’s a jam-packed activity that the students love. Check out our process and finished examples below!

Artist Trading Cards- Artists and Mediums #2

This is the second set of artist and mediums covered so far. 7th graders- we only went over Picasso and O'Keeffe on Thurs/Fri. We'll come back to the last two artists in a week or so.

Artists this time around are Pablo Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol. Our medium choices for creating the cards are blended oil pastel, tissue paper and glue, charcoal pencil with collage and Styrofoam printing. Students must also highlight one element and one principle of art in their cards. The slides below were reviewed in class.

Cubist Still Life

Broken mirrors? No, Cubist art!

We divided our paper with 5-6 lines to create a spilt background. By looking at a still life projected onto the screen, we were able to create a series of objects that "shift" when they overlap a line. Crayon and pastels add explosive color. Well done 8th graders!

Cubist still life rocks!

We are revisiting Picasso with a still life drawing to complement our Picasso portrait. The document camera works great to project our objects.
