Completed Wire Portraits

Contours, contours, contours!

This was the last part is a series of lessons on portraits and contour line drawings. We spent a little time looking at Calder's work- especially his wire sculpture- before working with stovepipe wire and pliers. A rustic cardboard background provides stability and depth to this project.

  3. Did the students create the backgrounds or did they pick ones you had created? How are they attached?

  4. I found your post while searching for a wire artist who could create a piece, just like the ones here, from a drawing my daughter made. Now I think that if a 7th grader can do it, so can I! do you layer the drawing over the cardboard and just staple the wire as you go - and then tear away the drawing? My email address is annekapinus@gmail.com. I would really appreciate any guidance - this would make a fantastic Christmas gift for her!
