Silhouettes of the Serengeti
Welcome 7th graders!
7th graders did a great job on our first project of Quarter 3.
We started with the idea of a graded wash watercolor background. We added India Ink animal silhouettes with Sharpie trees and patterned boarders. The results are dramatic, stunning and very "warm" looking. The perfect distraction from our frozen, arctic tundra we are living in now!

Project updates- Zentangle Still Life
Zentangle Still Lifes
What a successful project! We used Sharpie for our Zentangle backgrounds and chalk pastel for our still lifes. Focus was on variety of pattern as well as varied line thickness and value blending. At the beginning of the lesson, the still life image was projected on screen to allow for large classes to view it in detail. We also saved the image on our Edmodo class page for easy access anytime!
Completed Wire Portraits
Contours, contours, contours!
This was the last part is a series of lessons on portraits and contour line drawings. We spent a little time looking at Calder's work- especially his wire sculpture- before working with stovepipe wire and pliers. A rustic cardboard background provides stability and depth to this project.

Wire portraits inspired by Calder
We have been working on portrait drawing for a while now and we thought it might be a good idea to try a portrait out of wire. Before we started with wire today, we had some good practicing with contour drawing. Here we go! Finished projects will be posted soon.
